Guidelines for Fourth Course Credit
Presentation: Each student will present her or his topic of
independent study to the class. The length of the presentation is 45
minutes. The preferred style of presentation is to use the board, to
encourage a discussion similar to the course lectures. Some
combination of slides and board presentation is also acceptable.
Focus: The material presented should be imagined as if it is
inserted as another lecture in the class. Present the key
definitions, possibly include an example, and then state and prove
some key theorems. Try to relate the new concepts to topics already
seen in class. The time will go quickly, so be careful about the
amount of topics and the level of detail.
Notes: To accompany the presentation, prepare a few pages of
written notes to be handed out in class.
Date/Time/Location: To be determined. There will most likely
be 5 presentations, which can be performed in one long session with a
break near the middle. Most likely the date will be Reading Day (May
7) or the Saturday before reading day (May 2).
